Probably you are intrigued by the name of these rings. Why are they called cushion cut engagement rings? Yes, it is true that their stones look like cushions. They actually look like little pillows, with almost square shapes that have somewhat cut and rounded corners and edges. They aren’t quite oval or mine cut; they are somewhere in between. The popularity of these rings date back a century or two when they were quite common among various people of the English-speaking parts of the world.
These scintillating diamonds are quite creatively made. There could be as many as sixty facets on each of them and they cannot be created carelessly. A lot of effort goes in each of these, and even the calculations made for creating them are done quite meticulously. There are several variations of this shape today, but the common ones—those that are called the classic ones—have a width ratio of between 1.25 and 1.30. Jewelers have their own rating system for these diamonds. They classify them as Good Condition, Very Good Condition and Ideal Condition. This is in ascending order of their quality and also their prices.
Today, these diamonds are still made and the changed times are apparent in the way they are crafted. There is more of contemporary styling, sometimes with unconventional shapes worked out. One of these is the cutlet shape that produces a kind of a silhouette in the diamond.
There was a time sometime back when you could find these cushion cut engagement rings only in special places like in antique jewelry stores. Today, they are found more commonly. The most common shape you can find is the cushion set in four holders set on the ring that hold it at its four edges or at its four corners. The diamond is placed at an elevated position, which really brings out its beauty.
Think about them, of course! These diamond rings are quite special and if you have a special occasion coming out, they could help you quite well in expressing yourself emphatically.
